Your friend shared Zodl with you
Private money, on your phone.
Zodl is a free wallet for Zcash (ZEC). You can hold it, send it and receive it, and your balance and payments stay yours instead of showing up on a public ledger.
Prefer open-source builds? Zodl is also on F-Droid.
Receive your first ZEC
Once Zodl is installed and your wallet is set up, the friend who shared it can send you some ZEC. You just need to give them your address. There are two ways to do it.
In person: show your QR code
Best when you're standing next to each other.
- Open Zodl and tap Receive.
- Open your QR code and hold your screen up.
- Your friend taps Send in their wallet and scans it.
Over text: send your address
Best when you're apart.
- Open Zodl and tap Receive.
- Copy your address, or use Share to send it straight to a chat.
- Paste it into a text or message to your friend.
Then wait a moment. After your friend sends, the payment needs to be confirmed on the Zcash network, which usually takes a few minutes. Keep Zodl open and your ZEC will appear in your balance.
Why Zodl exists
Most money you use today can be watched. Card payments, bank transfers and most cryptocurrencies all leave a record that someone else can read.
Zcash was built to fix that. Its shielded transactions prove a payment is valid without revealing who sent it, who received it, or how much moved. Zodl is the flagship wallet for it, made by the Zcash Open Development Lab, the team that came out of the protocol's original inventors and developers. The goal is to bring unstoppable private money to billions of people.
- Private by default. Shielded ZEC keeps transaction details off the public record, and the wallet is designed to protect you as well.
- Yours alone. Self-custody: only you hold the keys, so nobody can freeze or take your funds.
- Works with the rest of crypto. Built-in swaps and CrossPay let you fund your wallet from other coins, or pay someone in the asset they prefer.
